A NIGHT TO REMEMBER FOR ENFIELD BOROUGH AT COCKFOSTERS

Spartan South Midlands League Division Two side Enfield Borough made the short trip to Premier Division side Cockfosters on Tuesday evening in the SSMFL Challenge Trophy Second Round.

Both sides were in good form with Borough going into the game on a run of twelve games without a defeat and Cockfosters losing only one of their previous thirteen games which was a 1-2 defeat against Hoddesdon Town - The Lillywhites got their winner in the 93rd minute of that game.

Cockfoster's had lots of possession in the first half with their best chance being a Ramone Cassidy-Sinclair ultra close range header which went wide of the post when it really looked easier to score. Credit to The Panthers who really worked hard in defence and broke well on the counter attack at times creating their own chances up front.

In the second half Borough came back into the game and took the lead via a Soloman Nwabuokei header from a corner which was quickly followed up by an equaliser from 'Foster's Jason Beck - a low shot from the edge of the box squeezed through a number of bodies and into the net.

Nwabuokei was then sent-off (second yellow card) after a challenge on 'Foster's captain Ben Spaul. On the replay the first challenge is from 1m 47s and the second is from 5m 20s.

The result ended all square at 1-1 with all games in the Challenge Trophy going straight to penalty kicks. 'Foster's missed one and had one of their four taken saved so it was Borough who scored four out of their five taken and went through 4-2 on kicks from the penalty mark to make it a night to remember for Marvin Walker's side.

It was a two nights and two shock results in the competition as Borough were due to the play the winner's of Wednesday night's game between Unite MK and Welwyn GC. This pitted thirteenth placed in D2 versus fifth placed Premier Division title challengers - the full-time result was 0-0 and saw Unite MK go through on penalty kicks 5-4. So maybe Donald Trump's victory in the American Election wasn't the most unexpected result of the week?

So the all Division Two third round clash will be played on Wednesday 7th December at the Donkey Lane.

INTERVIEW WITH DEAN BARKER - MANAGER OF COCKFOSTERS FC

On Saturday Cockfosters have a very important home game in the Buildbase FA Vase Second Round against fellow SSMFL Premier Division side Wembley. A win would see 'Foster's reach the Third Round of the competition for the first time in their history. If you are local to North London why not pay Chalk Lane a visit and give The 'Foster's some support....you'll be assured of a great welcome from everyone at the club. Wembley's best performance came in 99/00 and 07/08 when they reached the Third Round.
