AN ENFIELD TOWN RE-UNION BETWEEN HODDESDON TOWN & EDGWARE TOWN

The Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division game between Hoddesdon Town and Edgware Town played on Wednesday evening must be the game that has involved most ex Enfield Town people ever.....so far!

Edgware Town are now managed by Fabio Valenti who is assisted by Jason Dale and Darren Bonfield - their team on the night contained Paul Marks with Craig McKay on the bench alongside the non-league veteran Fergus Moore (who did play a game for ETFC reserves a few seasons back). Phil Kane and Dennis Maharjan are also with Edgware Town this season.

Hoddesdon Town have Michael Bardle as a coach and had Chris Wild making his debut for The Lillywhites who formed a defensive partnership with Matt Turpin with Ben Hammond making an appearance from the sub's bench in the second half.

It was a real game of two halves as Edgware Town played the better football in the first period and could of been more than 0-1 up before a Matt Turpin headed equaliser right before the break. This seemed to spur Hoddy on in the second half as they played much better football changing from a more direct style they had played during the first half. It was a 3-1 when Edgware's George McCluskey (another ex Towner - nine appearances in the 2013/14 season) scored a cracking goal from around 30 yards out to make it a more nervy finish than The Lillywhite's manager Paul Halsey would of wanted.

Hoddesdon Town played this game at Wodson Park - the plan was for them to play all their league games at Ware FC's home to seek promotion should they finish in the appropriate position but they will return to Lowfield in a few weeks with hopes of still going up with plans in place to improve their historic home ground to gain Step 4 status.

Just to confuse things a little they play an away game today at Wodson Park against Welwyn Garden City as The Citizens are still waiting for their ground improvements to be completed. Edgware's next game comes at Silver Jubilee Park when they welcome London Tigers for a League Challenge Trophy game on Tuesday evening.
