FC BROXBOURNE AND WELWYN GC WIN - SSMFL DIVISION ONE RACE FOR PROMOTION

MURAT KARAGUL SCORES GOAL OF THE SEASON CONTENDER
Featuring highlights of FC Broxbourne Borough v Baldock Town and Welwyn Garden City v Chesham United Reserves

The race for promotion from Division One of the Spartan South Midlands Division One looks set to develop in a really exciting one with a number of teams in the race for the top two places.

FC Broxbourne Borough entertained Baldock Town (2nd v 9th in the table before the game) on Tuesday evening in front of twenty-one people who decided to miss the big England v Poland game on television. They were rewarded in the third minute when FCBB's Murat Karagul scored from a outside of the box. His fantastic strike is most definitely a goal of the season contender. Check it out on the video on 0m 15secs.

FC BROXBOURNE BOROUGH V BALDOCK TOWN HIGHLIGHTS

The final score of 4-1 doesn't give a true reflection of how the game, which threatened to boil over on the odd occasion, was played out. The visitors were much the better side in terms of possession and really got into the home side with some tough (but mostly fair) tackles. However, they couldn't turn their possession into more goals than the one they scored in the first half. Nathan Aulsberry's strike was also an impressive goal and made the half time score 1-1 (see from 5mins 20secs). Did FCBB get away with a handball in the box just prior to this goal?  (see from 4m 50secs)
Above - FC Broxbourne Borough's Kem Kemal celebrates their second goal in his own unique style.
In the second half things got a little heated on the pitch at times and between the two benches as you'll see. Baldock deserved more for their efforts but the home side ran in three late goals to make the final score 4-1. FCBB manager Kem Kemal's reaction to his side's second goal was, shall we say, passionate. Full respect to Baldock's Assistant Manager Stephen Morgan for keeping his cool.

A special mention must go to Baldock's captain Antony Bowskill who kept going right to the end and put in a great tackle right at the end of the game.

On Wednesday evening Welwyn Garden City had the chance to move back above FCBB as they entertained Chesham United Reserves. Despite not firing on all cylinders The Citizens continued their amazing run of wins with a 3-1 victory thanks to a first half hat-trick by striker Jason Caswell. It's been a good week for Caswell as he scored four goals in the previous game against Standon and Puckeridge.

WELWYN GARDEN CITY V CHESHAM UNITED RESERVES HIGHLIGHTS

Isn't it the sign of a good side that when they don't play well they still win? Caswell's third goal was a really impressive solo effort which can be seen on 2m 45secs.

The match will be remembered for three penalty decisions that were called for by the home side. The first wasn't given which I think was the right decision (0m 25s), the second was given which I think maybe of been the wrong decision as I can't see a real foul being committed (1m 45s) and the third was not given but maybe should of been. Was it a handball or ball to hand? (3m 28s) Football...it's all about opinions!!!  A crowd of forty-four saw this game.

Welwyn Garden City are now unbeaten in fourteen league and cup games where they have won twelve and drawn two. They entertain Combined Counties League side Bedfont and Feltham in the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Division's game of the weekend is at The Gosling Stadium when the only unbeaten side so far put their record on the line against FC Broxbourne Borough. Another decent game coming up is on Saturday 26th October when Kings Langley visit Welwyn.

GOALSCORER!!!! - Man-Of-The-Match Jason Caswell after scoring his second hat-trick in two games.
