HERTFORD TOWN FIGHT BACK TO WIN A WELL DESERVED POINT

BIG DECISION? - THE REFEREE CONSULTS HIS ASSISTANT PRIOR TO GIVING A YELLOW CARD FOR THE FOUL WHICH RESULTED IN HERTFORD'S FIRST PENALTY KICK. HERTFORD TOWN'S FANS LOOK ON FROM UNDER THE STABLE END

If a bookmaker was working in-play at Hertingfordbury Park yesterday afternoon you would of probably got some generous odds during the half time break on the match ending in a draw. Colney Heath dominated the first 45 minutes so much so they could of scored one or two more than the three they did manage. The Hertford Town back-line were unable to cope with the pace of Courtney Lawrence up front for the visitors and some lazy stray passing in midfield also lead to one the goals.

PLAYING AGAINST HIS OLD CLUB - GLENN DRAPER OF COLNEY HEATH
The second half was a totally different game. I think Hertford boss Paul Halsey may have had a few choice words with his players in the dressing room as the home side attacked from the off and caused the Colney defenders lots of problems. Colney's central defender Glenn Draper who was returning to one of his former clubs had had an easy first half but he and his fellow players were very busy in the second period. He was also on the receiving end of some good natured banter from the noisy home fans gathered under The Stable End.

Hertford made it 1-3 via the penalty spot after their player Tommy Wade had been fouled when just about to take a shot directly in front of goal. Most home (and away) fans were amazed when only a yellow card was shown as surely this was denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

It was 2-3 when after a goalmouth scramble the ball was neatly placed into the back of the net by Bradley Fraser. Time seemed to be running out for Hertford as they piled on the pressure with Colney getting a few chances to wrap up the game on the break but they were unable to beat Harry Ricketts in the Hertford goal.

Right on 90 minutes the comeback was complete when another penalty kick was awarded although this time it was less than clear cut. From the replay it looks as though it was given for Glenn Draper climbing on the Hertford player? The Cold End thinks it was a little bit of a harsh decision but in the end the draw was about the right result for both sides.

Hertford went into this match on four game losing run after winning four in a row so to come back to gain a point after such a poor showing in the first half may well reignite their season which was going well up until their recent blip. Another positive was the attendance of 145 which is their highest figure for a league fixture since they played Cokfosters on the final game of last season where the crowd was 159. They are currently in sixth place - 12 points below current league leader's Kings Langley who have a game in hand over them so maybe their best chance of silverware will come in either the Hertfordshire FA Charity Shield or the SSMFL Premier Division Cup.

In the HCS they entertain Leverstock Green in the Semi-Final on Tuesday evening and in the PDC they travel for an eagerly anticipated quarter-final local derby at St Margarestsbury on Tuesday 2nd February.

Colney Heath are currently in thirteenth place with their only chance of glory coming in the Premier Division Cup where they face a short trip along the A414 to play their local rival's London Colney in a Quarter Final game on Tuesday 2nd February.
