1893 COME BACK TO RECORD MEMORABLE VICTORY AGAINST SOUTHEND MANOR

It's been a fairly chaotic season for Enfield 1893 FC who now play at Harlow Town's ground after they left Goldsdown Road in the summer. They started the season with a new manager in Paul Norris who was assistant to Luke Giddings for the 2013/14 campaign. Giddings had the club due to increased work commitments. Norris left after just two league games which were both home defeats against Stansted (0-3) and Haringey Borough (1-10) with Scott Curley taking over who is assisted by ex Towner Daniel Alleyne. It's Curley's first managerial appointment having played for a host of local non-league side's such as Harlow Town, Aveley, East Thurrock United and Leyton to name a few.

Since Curley took over they have a record of three wins, two draws and nine losses from 14 games played. On Tuesday evening they welcomed Southend Manor to Barrows Farm for a Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy Second Round tie. 1893 included ex Towner's Dave Kendall, Tyler Christian Law (Town reserves) and Jon Stevenson (who was substitute) in their line-up which included just Tom Phillips, Michael Georgiou and Billy Jones who remained from their first starting XI on August 9th.

For a large part of the game last night it was looking like 10 defeats from 15 games played as Southend Manor dominated proceedings with 1893's best chance coming from a Dave Kendall header which was very well saved by the Manor keeper. Manor's young side were 0-2 up and cruising to victory with around twenty minutes to go. The Cold End was very impressed with their manager Wayne Seal who gave his player's constant encouragement from the dug-out throughout the 90 minutes.

It all went downhill for the away side as 1893 came back, showing some tremendous fighting spirit, to record what maybe a season changing victory. Manor who had been passing the ball well and playing with width stretching the home backline went suddenly to putting long balls down the middle which Jon Stevenson, who came on at half time, won nearly everytime. Billy Jones scored two penalty kicks in quick succession and then got a third with substitute Steve Hutchinson scoring a fourth right on full time.

1893 now travel to Clapton in the Third Round of the competition.
