EMERALD PARK - GORLESTON FC

Two views of the amazing stand at Great Yarmouth Town's Wellesley Road Ground at the weekend
The Cold End enjoyed the last weekend in Great Yarmouth and planned to see The Bloater's Reserves play Ipswich Wanderers Reserves at The Wellesley Ground as since my visit here in October 2011 (v Hadleigh United - link here) I have always followed the fortunes of Great Yarmouth Town. The stand is amazing and is currently thought to be the World's oldest football stand still in regular use having been opened in 1892. On arrival we found out that the game had been called off at approximately 1.15pm as the visitors couldn't raise a team so it was a quick journey across town to Gorleston's Emerald Park to see Gorleston FC Reserves v Brantham Athletic Reserves.

Gorleston are Great Yarmouth Town's local rivals and their first-team play in the Premier Division of the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League with The Bloaters currently in Division One following relegation in 2012.

Their Emerald Park ground (built in 1983) is an impressive stadium with full cover on three of the four sides - it could easily host Step 4 and Step 3 football with a few minor improvements.

The game was easily won by the visitors who raced into a 0-5 half time lead in front of an announced crowd of 36 people. The final scored was 1-6 with two of the goals scored below including Gorleston's late free kick -

214 had seen the two rival's first teams clash at Emerald Park in the FA Vase on Saturday 19th Ocotber in which The Bloaters came out on top 0-1. Pictures of the ground are below -
