THE ASH TREES PROGRESS IN THE MIDDLESEX SENIOR CUP
Ashford Town made the trip from the South West corner of the county yesterday evening to play Enfield Town in the Middlesex Senior Cup Second Round and thanks to three second half goals came away with a 1-3 victory giving them a safe passage into the Third Round.
The Mass Crowds behind the goal in the First Half. The official attendance was 58.
Enfield Town fielded a youthful side comprising of mostly members of the under 21 side. Only George McCluskey and Chris Wild were players in the starting XI whom had played regularly for the first team this season. The teams also included Mitch Hahn and Jermaine Osei. Hahn scored the first goal of the game and it was a good strike to make the score 1-0 at half time. It was a deserved lead as the Town were the better side. Just when the small crowd of Towners who were in attendance were dreaming of a win and clean sheet in a competitive match it all went wrong with Owen O'Donovan giving away a penalty which made it 1-1. Cyril Ocansey of Ashford then lobbed James Chalk in the Town goal from outside of the box to make it 1-2. Shortly afterwards from a corner it appeared Chalk was hampered by an opposing player when reaching for the ball resulting in it falling into the net. Should it of been a foul?

One thing the Ashford official website calls for is for the Middlesex FA to regionalise the early rounds of the competition as the journey around the M25 (approx 42 miles) or A406 (approx 28 miles) isn't the best to make at any time of the day especially in Monday evening rush hour traffic. I'm not sure how it would work but for Ashford to play a team closer to them such as Hanworth Villa or Staines Town would make better sense.
