VICTORY FOR TOWN IN THE NORTH LONDON DERBY

Enfield Town recorded a very hard fought win over local rivals Wingate and Finchley on Tuesday evening. I think the match was summed up well by "Terrace Legend" and club Captain Mark Kirby's broad smile directed at the Wingate fans who had been giving him some major stick throughout the 90 minutes. Two league games versus Wingate & Finchley this season and Kirbs has scored the winner in both!!

Extended highlights (22 minutes...please don't watch if offended by industrial language as some was picked up during the game) are below including all the goals and talking points in the game. Many of the Wingate fan's barracked the referee for awarding Town a penalty kick for a handball in the box. I think from the replay it looks a reasonable decision. Could Town have had a penalty before then for a handball on the line??

It was a really decent game and could of gone the way of a home victory had a shot from Wingate in the first half not rattled Noel Imber's post when the game was at 1-0. The home side were well on top at that point but a strong fight back from the Town saw to a well deserved victory and more importantly three more points gained in the fight to stay out of the relegation zone.

Town's new signing David Laird (from Wingate) was given a decent reception by the home faithful when coming on as a late substitute. 'Lairdinho' showed what a decent player he is with a turn and shot in the box which just went wide of the post. I heard one Wingate fan shouting 'I wish we had a player like that in our team'.

Town's next game is at home at Donkey Lane on Saturday versus Lewes. Why not come down and sample some proper football??
