HODDESDON TOWN VICTORY GIVES THEM A SEMI

Hoddesdon Town welcomed Bedford to The Stewart Edwards Stadium yesterday evening for the vistor's second game of midweek after their defeat to Biggleswade Town on Tuesday. This was a Dudley Lathom Memorial Cup (the SSMFL Premier Division Cup) Quarter-Final tie with the winners scheduled to host London Colney in the Semi-Final.

The Lillywhites were the better side in match that never really got going - They scored early on through a nice goal from Mark Twumasi. The half time score was 1-0 and it was nearly 2-0 early in the second period when a shot from outside of the box rattled the cross bar with the Bedford keeper making a superb save from the follow up shot. Bedford played some good football but needed a little more urgency and cutting edge up front throughout the game. They did make it 1-1 when the home keeper made a error and spilled the ball allowing their player to pass the ball into the net. Hoddesdon's centre forward Tommy Wade then made some terrific movement off the ball and caught out the Bedford back four from a throw in to put the ball in the back of the net (he even caught me out on camera he was that quick!). Brett O'Connor put some gloss on the scoreline with a late goal to make it 3-1.

Hoddesdon Town manager Gavin Kelsey will be happy with the positive result to go into their important away league game at Stotfold on Saturday. For Bedford boss Peter Waller it's more of the same from Tuesday evenings game - he has a good young squad of players and I think they will win more games than they will lose in their remaining fixtures with a little bit more luck and experience.

The other Premier Division Cup semi-final sees Welwyn GC tavel to the winners of the London Tigers v Hadley quarter final that is yet to be played.
